According to residents, it is not uncommon to find parents lining up for food that has been prepared for pupils because of the tough situation back at home.
At Ilbisil primary school, some parents often arrive at the school a few minutes before the lunchtime bell rings.
In one of the pictures, seen by Wananchi Reporting, the parents can be seen lining alongside pupils for a meal of githeri – often because there is no food at home.
Ilbisil primary school head teacher Mr. Daniel Lantai said the school has been receiving and supporting parents.
“Our school has been receiving parents who come to ask of food because of the difficult situation back at their homes,” said Lantai.
Adding thus: “The drought has affected livelihoods after families lost hundreds of livestock. Many are unable to pay school fees. This drought is grossly affecting education in the county.”
